Voice Acting - Captain Kremmen
During the studies for my Bachelor of Games Design, a required subject was an introduction to the principles of sound and sound design. One assessment for this subject required us to take a video clip, remove the existing soundtrack and replace it with a new one.
I chose to do an episode of the old Captain Kremmen cartoon. Kremmen (along with many other characters) was the brainchild of Kenny Everett, a British comedian who had a TV show in the late 70's and early 80's. The cartoon was shown during the TV show, and all the characters were voiced by Everett himself. The animation was quite simple due to budget constraints, and it turns out it was done by Cosgrove-Hall, who went on to make Dangermouse amongst other things.
After choosing an episode and listening to it multiple times in order to scribe out the script, I spent a day in the recording booth laying down the tracks for each character, and like the original, I did all the character voices. Then it was off to edit it all together and put in the appropriate sound effects. I have previous experience with voice overs and and vocal work, so I have no doubt that helped, but this was one of the hardest things I've done, as trying to match up the vocal to the animation was quite difficult.
The clip is only a couple of minutes long, so enjoy.
Theatre
Over the years I have been involved in a number of amatuer theatre productions.
The most notable of these was the Warrandyte Arts Society's production of Cosi, the Louis Nowra play centred around Mozart’s opera, Cosi fan tutte. In this production I was privileged to play the part of Lewis, the central character. The company performed this play for an initial two week season as part of their program for that year.
The following year, the company revisited the production when it was requested we perform at the final Waverly Festival (a celebration of amateur theatre productions in Victoria). Not only were the cast and crew all happy to revisit their roles, but we also then took the production on tour, performing at a number of regional locations over the course of a week, a new location each day, with the final two performances being at the Mt Buffalo Chalet.
Voice Acting - Advertising Parody
Another assessment during my studies required us to write, record and edit an audio piece that could be used as a TV or radio advertisement. I chose to parody some of the late-night advertising.
Below is the 30 second version.
